Well, none of this makes a whole hell of a lot of sense, but in last nights dream, I was at a diner with friends of friends discussing why in the hell a friend would book a show on Valentine’s Day. Like it was a classic mistake, nobody does that. Some girls at the table thought it was “sweet” to do that, the guys thought otherwise. You know how in dreams it’s all messed up, like you know these dream people, and even remember them from old dreams, but they don’t exist in real life? Well, these were those people.
The gig ended up being 2 bands, I forget the first, but they were the better of the two bands but less entertaining. It may have been some version of Juniper Tar actually. It was a larger venue that doesn’t exist in real life…OR DOES IT!? Ooh… are dreams like reality, and reality like….nevermind. I’ll spare you the bro stoner conversation. The second band was a guy/girl metal duo and half the time the one of um air drummed, and for some reason they needed two drum sets that resembled my Ludwig drums, both white, magical, (like me). Everyone seemed entertained, but it was lousy. Somehow they even lost each others rhythm half air playing, if that’s possible. They finished with Sabbath’s Iron Man, complete with classic Ozzy video clips on a tube tv that was set on one of those stands you had in grade school, yeah, those big metal stands on wheels. I like those. Here’s the good part, to close the evening they through out cap guns that were sorta spring loaded with fake metal bullets that were kinda dangerously powerful and everyone had one, all like 100 of us. I seemed to knew everyone, and at first was hesitent, but we all started shooting each other! And it hurt! I got pegged in the leg and face, and people started calling out body parts they wanted to be shot in. “Shoot me in the deltoid” someone shouted! I remember asking, “what the hell’s a deltoid”? It turned into people calling out the oddest parts they wanted to be shot. For some reason I think my gun was more powerful than most. I covered my balls the entire time. This chapter of dreamland concluded with shooting my dainty friend “Bekki the Jew” just below her throat, point blank. I think she actually liked it. It was pandemonium!
The dream ended with me walking out to the bus stop by my house in my robe to go downtown early morning. It was really icey out. I was slippin and slidin’ and more concerned that i hadn’t brushed my teeth, much less get dressed or showered.

The past two nights I have had dreams revolving around cars. The night before, I was in a red 1985 Firebird, meeting someone who drove a brighter red matching 1985 Firebird.
In this latest dream however I was in the back seat of I think a big old Ford Bronco and Jason Mohr was there and maybe a few others. We were in a foreign country that had too much sand and was dangerous. It was dark out and all of us were just sitting in the truck. A terrorist decided he was going to blow us up, but give us a chance to get away! He had a giant tank of gas or something explosive sitting in front of the truck, and took as small gas can and started pouring it on the hood showing us his intentions. He then lit a wick or molotov cocktail on top of the giant tank of gas. I calmly chose to leave everything but my ipod and leather jacket and we all got out and the truck exploded but it was a wimpy explosion, not like in the movies. So we walked to safety a 100 yards away or so and it sorta looked like an Iraqi hotel resort with a nice fire pit and such, so we hung out there and were safe. I woke out of the dream before we were able to BBQ or have cocktails.

The past three days have been just incredible. So many good folks came out to each show in Madison, Chicago and Milwaukee. Last night especially, a total lovefest. We’re so thankful that Invade Rome selected us to play the three CD release shows with them. We all wish we had at least ten more days with them. Thanks again to Decibully for loaning us their van, which now has a nice clean dashboard. Stay posted for some photos from the shows as they appear.
Be good and much love,
JTM
It’s -7 degrees.
It’s wonderful and magical how when you step outside, the air actually freezes your breath forcing you to cover your mouth with a glove or a scarf in order to inhale.
Still, we’re really looking forward to the next three days we’ll be playing with our pals, Invade Rome. We’re in Madison (The Frequency) tonight, Chicago (Empty Bottle) tomorrow and back here (Cactus Club) on Saturday. Many thanks to Decibully for passing along the keys to their tour bus for our usage during the next few days.
It’s been a nice exercise to focus on a set during the last few rehearsals. I think it’s allowed us all to dig a little deeper. We’re especially excited to play the new jams live.
Hope to give many of you hello hugs when we see you. As always, Cactus Club dance party will begin about 1:30am after we properly sing the Beach Boys jam.
A warm wave to you from across the frozen air,
J
